How Do Pitch Control Wind Turbine Cope With Extreme Weather?
Pitch control wind turbine is a power machine that convert wind energy into electrical energy and are particularly suitable for areas with good wind conditions. But how does it deal with extreme weather such as typhoons? Today, we’re going to introduce to you the comprehensive measures taken by our company's pitch control wind turbine to deal with extreme weather.
Intelligent Control
Yaw System Adjustment
The pitch control wind turbine uses yaw systems to keep the blades facing the wind head-on, preventing strong winds from lateral to the nacelle and thereby reducing lateral resistance. Therefore, when a typhoon approaches, wind turbines will make yaw adjustments to ensure that the engine room faces the wind head-on rather than sideways, thereby reducing the risk of being blown over by strong winds.
Blade Pitch Adjustment Function
The blades of the pitch control wind turbine adjust their angles through pitch technology to reduce the rotor load. When the wind speed exceeds the safety threshold, the blades will automatically paddle forward, that is, parallel to the wind direction, reducing their own efficiency in capturing wind energy and preventing the blades from twisting, damaging or breaking.
Automatic Shutdown Program
The intelligent system of the pitch control wind turbine will monitor the wind speed in real time. When the wind speed exceeds the design limit, it will trigger the shutdown to avoid damage. In this case, the pitch system will stop the rotation of the blades. The rotor brake and hydraulic locking device will be activated to fix the rotor. The yaw brake maintains full pressure to prevent components from being damaged due to inertia.
Inspection And Maintenance
Daily Inspection
The main task is to regularly inspect whether the connection points of each component of the pitch control wind turbine are tight, check the wear conditions of components such as blades, towers, and electrical systems, and replace aged components in a timely manner.
Special Inspection During the Typhoon Season
Referring to the wind speed conditions of previous years, before the strong wind period, focus on checking the reliability of the wind measurement device, electrical system and mechanical components to ensure that the pitch control wind turbine is in the best condition.
Emergency Measures
Ensure that the emergency power supply for the pitch control wind turbine can operate normally. During the typhoon season, when the wind turbine is shut down, the blades should be able to execute the forward pitch command to avoid wind resistance and prevent resonance with the turbulent frequency of the typhoon.
For wind turbines affected by strong typhoons, it is necessary to strengthen the inspection of blades, towers and connecting bolts, etc. after the typhoon, and replace damaged parts in time to ensure normal use in the future.
