Why Is Wind Turbine Selling Well in Poland

Regarding the development of the Polish market, the country has undergone one of the most dynamic changes in its renewable energy landscape with wind power leading the way. At the end of 2025, the onshore wind generation capacity of the country had reached 11 GW and 11 GW is already the biggest share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. This is a major opportunity for manufacturers and suppliers of wind turbines and the driving forces behind this demand should be examined closely.

A National Commitment to Energy Transition

The energy transition in Poland has become reality rather than a vision. The nation has ambitious goals in place, 5.9 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and 18 GW by 2040. Such a change has been quickened by the government's decisive action. The Offshore Wind Act, adopted in 2025, does away with investment barriers and makes clear laws on project development. The government has implemented regulatory measures to navigate political obstacles, such as some provisions being vetoed by the president, but the measures have been pushed ahead. Wind power is being given greater consideration by environmental authorities and procedures are being streamlined to minimise project delays.

The results are seen. Renewables outpaced coal for the first time since the start of the energy transition in a single month in 2025. Of the total electricity generation, 13.8% was from onshore wind.

Strong Economic Fundamentals

Wind power in Poland is not only an environmentally friendly solution, but also economically attractive. Capital expenditure in the period 2026-2040 is expected to amount to PLN 150 billion, while operational and maintenance costs will be PLN 60 billion, providing a total value of Poland's onshore wind market of PLN 214 billion. Also, offshore wind projects are on a large scale. The Baltic Power project (1,200 MW) should be operational in the second half of 2026 and Baltica 2 (1,500 MW) is expected to be operationalised in the second half of 2027. A further offshore auction in December 2025 awarded an additional 3.4 GW in capacity.

The economic argument has only gotten stronger as time passes. Polish companies are currently well-established in the construction/infrastructure segment (with 70-90% value of project), in operations and maintenance (75%) and in turbine technology (which still has growth potential). The government is keen to maximize the local content, maximizing the Polish companies based part of the chain value.

A Growing Market with Real Demand

Solar PV additions have exceeded wind over the recent years, but wind is still the largest among renewable energy sources in the generation mix in Poland. Existing wind-on-shore connection deals have landed a new 9 GW of onshore wind potential that is projected to be realised by 2030. In the next 15 years, the onshore wind capacity is expected to grow from approximately 11 GW to approximately 34 GW, provided that the Polish annual capacity investments in the onshore wind sector are between 1.5 and 2 GW .

We have over 18 GW in projects with permit by state-owned energy producers for offshore installations already state-owned producers do participate in growing the installed wind capacity, and there are examples of major utility acquisitions, e.g. PGE expanding its fleet in wind. Policy Support and Long-Term Visibility

The foundation has been laid on Polish regulation for wind development. Increasing of capacity to a high potential can occur by unburdening of wind permits. GIS analysis showed, that with the wind turbine distances to houses being shortened from the currently binding rule 10h (1,700m) to just 700m, the percentage of land occupied by wind farms can grow from less than 1% to above 10% of the total land area in Poland. Because the market fundamentals for wind turbines are outstanding, they are selling well in Poland.
